Helpful Tips

To help you make the most of your trip, here are a few helpful things to know before you come to México:

Mexican Independence Day
Guests arriving before the wedding may experience Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations on September 15–16.
This is one of the most important holidays in Mexico, featuring festive gatherings, fireworks, music, and lively celebrations throughout the city.
Please note that these dates are considered a national holiday, so restaurants, transportation, and public areas may be busier than usual.

Currency
The local currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Credit cards are widely accepted in most shops and restaurants, though we recommend carrying cash for taxis, smaller purchases and tips.

Tipping
Tipping is customary in Mexico. In restaurants, 15% is standard, and small tips are appreciated for hotel staff and drivers.

Weather
September is part of the rainy season, with warm days and cooler evenings. Occasional afternoon or evening showers are common, so a light jacket or wrap is recommended.

Walking
The city is very walkable, but streets are cobblestoned. Comfortable footwear is highly recommended.

Transportation
Uber and taxis are readily available, though we suggest allowing extra time during busy periods and holiday dates.

Safety
San Miguel de Allende is considered a safe destination; however, as with any travel, we recommend being mindful of your belongings.

Language
Spanish is the primary language, though English is widely spoken in most restaurants, hotels, and shops.

Water
We recommend drinking bottled water during your stay water from the tap is not drinkable in México.
